Have you ever been caught off guard by a sudden birthday party invitation or a last-minute gift-giving occasion? If you're like most people, you've probably experienced the frustration of not having the perfect gift on hand when you need it most. That's where a gift closet comes in handy. In this blog post, we'll explore why everyone should have a gift closet and how to create one.

What is a Gift Closet?

A gift closet is a designated storage space where you keep a stash of gifts for various occasions. This could include birthdays, weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, graduations, holidays, and more. The gifts can be purchased at any time and stored in the closet until needed. By having a gift closet, you can avoid the stress of last-minute shopping and save money by purchasing gifts when they're on sale.

Why Should You Have a Gift Closet?

There are many reasons why having a gift closet is a great idea:

Be Prepared for Any Occasion

With a gift closet, you'll always be prepared for any occasion. No more rushing to the store at the last minute or frantically searching for a gift online. You'll have a variety of gifts on hand for any occasion that arises.

Save Money

By purchasing gifts when they're on sale or at a discount, you can save money in the long run. You won't have to pay full price for a gift when you need it, which can be a huge cost-saver in the long run.

Reduce Stress

Gift-giving can be stressful, especially when you're trying to find the perfect gift at the last minute. Having a gift closet takes the stress out of gift-giving by providing you with a selection of gifts to choose from at any time.

Show Your Thoughtfulness

By having a gift closet, you can show your thoughtfulness by giving a gift that is truly unique, possibly purchased on an international trip or a rare Ebay find.  Maybe you found some treasures on a recent trip to Sausalito *wink wink*.

How to Create a Gift Closet

Creating a gift closet is easy. Here are some steps to follow:

Choose a Storage Space

The first step is to choose a storage space for your gift closet. This could be a spare room, a closet, or even a section of your garage or basement.  My  gift closet is a box inside my bedroom closet. Just make sure it's a cool, dry, and dark space to keep the gifts in good condition.  Also, make it a place your kids won’t discover.

Choose a Variety of Gifts

Next, start building your gift collection. Think about the occasions you'll need gifts for and choose a variety of gifts that will suit those occasions.

Some gift ideas that always go over well and are worth stocking up on are candles, notepads and markers, art prints and children’s art supplies.

Shop for Deals

One of the best things about a gift closet is that you can shop for deals and discounts. Keep an eye out for sales, clearances, and other promotions throughout the year. You can also find great gifts when traveling or when something speaks to you.

Make Sure to Stock Up on Cute Wrapping

Finally, the presentation of the gift is often as important as the gift itself.  Stock up on paper, boxes,  tape and ribbon or if you’re into gift bags, bags and paper.  From time to time, weed out uninteresting bags  as they tend to get saved and accumulate over time.

In Conclusion

A gift closet is a great way to be prepared for any occasion, save money, reduce stress, and show your thoughtfulness. By following the steps above, you can create your own gift closet and have a selection of gifts on hand whenever you need them. So start building your gift collection today!
