JOHN MAVROUDIS

Doomed to care.

John Mavroudis is the co-creator of three New Yorker covers including the 5th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It was named Cover of the Year by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) and named one of the 10 Best Covers of the Year by Advertising Age. He also created the cover for The Nation magazine’s Obama Inaugural issue in January, 2009 and the Anti-Trump pre-election (October 2016) issue.

He won his second Cover of The Year award for his 2018 typographic portrait of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. It was one of his four covers for TIME magazine. Various other work includes over two dozen posters for the legendary Fillmore poster series, dozens of posters for the band Moonalice, and the 60th Anniversary poster for the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece.

He has created work for his hometown teams (San Francisco Giants and the Golden State Warriors), and recently completed a limited-edition typographic portrait screenprint for the brand new Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, OK.

He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Press

PRINT MAGAZINE

"Like illustrator Edel Rodriguez, over the past four years John Mavroudis has turned in striking editorial covers that serve as defining images of the Trump era. His latest piece for TIME—the first time since September 2001 that the magazine has featured a black border arounds its cover—is no exception."

THE NATION

"Our readers were profoundly moved by John Mavroudis's February 2 Obama inauguration cover and wrote in large numbers to tell us so."

MATAROA

"John Mavroudis’ works have been awarded and talked about, often going as far as to make a mark on society."

NEOSCOSMOS

"John Mavroudis’ now iconic Time cover epitomised the #metoo movement’s latest battle – this time against the political machinations and the judicial system. The battle was lost, but the impact of the Greek American artist’s image lingers on"

TYPEROOM

"John Mavroudis is one of the most influential and talked about contemporary illustrators of our times."

COLLECTORS WEEKLY

"John Mavroudis has quietly become a player in the noisy world of rock posters."
